Traditional hand-woven lurik textiles, once a very proud part of Javanese culture, with colorful combinations of stripes and squares in harmoniusly balanced motifs.

Simple in appearance but Rich with symbolism : eternal life, hope, willingness to face challenges, and as steady as the sturdy banyan tree…

We were born from a group of people who concern on cultural heritage, especially on hand-weaving tradition.

Founded by five ladies, We wanted to preserve the hand-weaving tradition in Indonesia and simultaneously empower women, encourage women to contribute in improving their livelihood and take part in bringing prosperity to our country.

Supported by Global Environment Facility & UNDP and Women Crisis Center, we made recovery program for women group on hand-weaver community, whos victims of Jogjakarta Earthquake

Weaving Process

Lurik is a traditional woven cloth of Java, Indonesia. Lurik is a relic of a very ancient history. This traditional cloth is made through a complex stage, requires accuracy and patience in the process of making this cloth. Let's see how the weaving process.

1. The first process is dyeing color.

Unlike batik using "draw" on a piece of cloth, Lurik process is to weave the threads into cloth, with motif designed from dyeing yarn colors, according to the desired.

2. The second process is spinning.

Threads that have been dyed, then dried until it becomes dry. Thereafter, the yarn spun in small rolls.

3. The third process is a process to set the yarn into motive.

This process is the most complicated process, because they have to arrange thin threads, which consists of 2100 pieces of thread.

This is done to produce Lurik pattern of 70 cm wide. Each motif has a different formula, while Lurik motifs, their number is many. Both classical motifs and contemporary motifs.

4. The fourth process, is to move the design motif into the loom.

Having laid out the basic motives, and then transferred to the weaving equipment. The threads are inserted one by one into the loom.

In this section, must be done by two people. one person to sort out the threads one by one and handed it to her partner, while the other partners, received and placed on the loom.

5. The fifth process is weaving

After four processes, eventually the threads that are ready to be woven. and of course by using the manual loom.
